About

Hi, I’m Brianne Pister.  I’m in my first year university and first year Arts Education.  My major is Visual Arts and my minor is currently undecided.  I came out of a small town named Rhein.  Experiencing a rural upbringing has definitely shaped who I am today.  I quickly learned hard work, an excellent sense of community, and how to two-step.  I have two sisters, me being the middle child. My dad is a farmer.  He has grown up with seven sister and later on had three daughters.  Now that man knows how to live with women.  My mother is on the Good Spirit School Division and works at the Yorkton Credit Union.  I have inherited her excellent shopping skills.

I attended The Yorkton Regional High School.  I was immensely involved with all kinds of activities.  Inside school I was a member of the Student Representative Council, volleyball and basketball teams, newspaper club, vocal jazz audition group, guitar club, and served as the 2007 Grad Director. The best experience I attained throughout my high-school years was being able to work with special needs children in the Alternative Education classroom.  It was a life changing experience.  I have excelled in academics, athletics and the arts.  Outside of school I was involved with Ukrainian dance, voice lessons, and being an In-School Mentor for the Big Brothers and Sisters Program.

In my free time I love to do various activities.  Reading books, hiking, snowboarding and yoga are excellent ways for me to relax.  One of my greatest achievements was completing a half marathon this past fall, and I hope to run many more in the future.

Computers may seem intiminating and I am definitely not considered a computer genious but I am willing to learn more about them.  The only time I use computers is for social use and school assignments.  I realize that computers are becoming an active part in the learning systems.  Exposing young children to the technological world will become a teacher’s obligation.  Although I understand the 21st century’s computer craze I also believe children must learn in multiple ways that do not concern technology.  My passion to teach visual arts will require children to be present in the classroom and to work in a hands on environment.  We as future educators have to embrace technology, but also rely on traditional teaching methods.

New technologies such as Facebook and Youtube can have positive and negative impacts on students everywhere.  Doors of communication are opened further and as a result classmates can share information quicker and in new medias.  In personal university experiences social technologies can also become distractions.  In the majority of classes there are students who are either text messaging or looking at someones pictures on Facebook, obviously not focusing on there instructor.  New technologies allow for both productive and unproductive behaviours in the classroom.

During my Education Computers class I hope to become more familiar with computers, as I will one day implement them in my teaching methods.  For now, I’m just a farm girl living in a world fasinated with technology!

  1. Brianne,
first off your picture on your page looks amazing! I totally share the same view point as you towards technology in the classroom. I agree that we have no choice but to use computers as our learning sidekick. I also feel strongly about using the same methods that were used to educate us in our earlier years. Although I do find it handy to keep in touch with friends and what not via the internet I think working with the kids in person is something highly needed to connect to students. Hopefully this class can guide us into a way of teaching that can help us both use computers along the road in our visual arts education adventure!
